Counseling Curriculum

The Menlo-Atherton Counselors meet with all 9th graders for three scheduled visits.  Most students in other grades see their counselor for at least two scheduled visits, as well as for other meetings as needed.

9th Grade

1st Quarter
  • Communication strategies & resources at M-A (self advocacy)
  • Review online resources for M-A students (mabears.org, seq.org, Infinite Campus) 
  • M-A Graduation requirements
  • College and Career Day
2nd Quarter
  • Review of web & campus resources
  • Review of graduation requirements
  • Naviance introduction
  • Career Inventory (Holland’s personality traits)
  • Potential earnings discussion
3rd Quarter
  • In class course selection presentation
  • Review of graduation requirements
  • Individual course selection sessions with counselor, graduation review
  • Discussion of post secondary goals
4th Quarter
  • Individual appointments with students as needed
  • Parent and family meetings as needed

10th Grade

1st Quarter
  • Individual appointments with students and families as needed
  • Small group sessions with identified students as needed
  • College and Career Day: PSAT
2nd Quarter
  • Review of web & campus resources
  • Update 4 Year Plan in Infinite Campus
  • Transcript Review
  • Revisit Career Inventory and further investigate 3-4 careers
3rd Quarter
  • In class course selection presentation
  • Review of graduation requirements
  • Individual course selection appointments with counselor, graduation review
  • Discussion of post secondary goals
4th Quarter
  • Individual appointments with students and families as needed

12th Grade

1st Quarter
  • Review of senior calendar & important dates
  • Graduation review with student transcripts
  • Post Secondary plan review
  • Discussion of application timeline & tasks
  • Making positive choices and self advocacy 
  • College & Career Day
2nd Quarter
  • Individual appointments with students and families as needed (at risk for non graduation)
  • Small group sessions with identified students as needed
  • Additional support of post-secondary plans
3rd Quarter
