M-A Math Contests

AMC 10/12 A hosted Thursday, November 5, 2026The American Math Contest (AMC) is an international math contest that will be administered on Thursday, November 5, 2026, during the 7th period block. Please use THIS LINK to sign up to express your interest in an invitation to the contest.

M-A has 40 participant slots for the AMC 10 and 30 participant slots for the AMC 12.  Teachers have an allotment of invitations.  If needed, there will be a lottery.

There will be a second opportunity on Friday, November 13th, during 6th and 7th period. See your math teacher if you have questions.  Top performers will advance to the American Invitational Math Exam (AIME).  The AIME is a three-hour exam, and M-A typically has 5 – 10 students participate annually.

The California Math League

School-wide math contests are held on six different Tuesdays throughout the year. These contests are part of a state contest, the California Math League. Hundreds of high schools throughout the state participate, both at the state and county levels.

M-A students are invited to participate in these 30-minute contests.  Students will solve six challenging math problems by applying high school-level concepts. Topics range from geometry through pre-calculus. A student can score from 0 to 6 on each contest. We encourage all students to participate. Most participants are enrolled in Geometry Enriched, AS Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics.

The benefits of participating include solving challenging math problems, the fun of competing with peers, earning math awards, and a great entry for college resumes. Math contests give students an opportunity to engage in independent thinking that cuts across the math curriculum. We believe that students who participate in math contests over their high school career become more skilled at taking standardized tests, like the SAT, math subject tests, and AP math exams.
