1) DIPLOMA REQUEST FORMS
M-A has a special tradition of allowing seniors to choose which staff member hands you your diploma. Diploma request forms will be distributed in February, and you will only have one week to make your choice! Monday February 5th: Seniors can start asking staff members to hand them their diploma February 6.
Friday February 17th: Deadline for seniors to turn in the form to Mrs. Blanca Ventura in the AVP Office.
2) SENIOR ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION
Activities are open to seniors who have satisfied all graduation requirements, or will satisfy them by the end of Summer Session 2018. Students must exhibit satisfactory citizenship during all activities.
3) SENIOR WEEK TICKETS
Cost: $5 A permission form and medical release form signed by the student and his/her parent/guardian is required before the ticket can be purchased. Tickets will be on sale all week from May 21st to Friday June 1st. You can purchase your tickets on the PAC Patio or the Green during lunch.
4) MANDATORY SENIOR MEETING – March 14th during FLEX TIME in the PAC
This meeting is your chance to learn about all the exciting senior events coming up! You will also receive crucial senior information from Senior Advisor Ms. Galliano, College Counselor Ms. Nguyen, your Guidance counselors, your senior officers, and grad night parents. In addition, you will hear a very important warning:
Do not do anything in the upcoming months that might jeopardize your graduation!
5) CAP AND GOWN DISTRIBUTION - Super Senior Monday: May 21st
Caps and gowns do not need to be purchased this year. Every student will receive a rental gown. You will submit your gown order form by Fri. Feb 16th. Caps and gowns will be distributed outside B-21 on May 21st. Gowns must be returned after graduation in order for you to receive a diploma. The caps and tassels you may decorate and keep.
6) GRADUATION SPEECHES
The graduation speeches offer an opportunity to hear directly from our grads. Your speech can be serious or humorous or nostalgic or about anything else you want to talk about. You will audition your speech in front of a panel of teachers. A meeting will be held March 21 in B-4. Those selected will work closely with a staff member to polish their speech before graduation day. Auditions will be held April 18th and 19th in the Career Center classroom.
7) SENIOR CLEARANCE SLIPS
Clearance slips indicate that you have met all your financial responsibilities and are cleared to participate in the graduation ceremony. The slips will be distributed on May 29th. You will be required to obtain signatures from the Treasurer (indicating that your financial obligations are clear); the Librarian (indicating that all library books have been returned); the Textbook Clerk (indicating that all textbooks have been returned); the Guidance Office (indicating academic clearance) and the AVP’s Office (indicating that your parking permit has been returned) and the College and Career Center (Naviance completion, chosen college, etc.). Please begin checking with the Treasurer’s Office as soon as possible to clear your outstanding obligations – lists will be posted on the wall outside her office. In clearing obligations, please note that checks will no longer be accepted after May 1st. The Senior Clearance Slip MUST be returned to Lorry Orcutt in the IVP Office by June 1st. This must be returned in order for you to participate in the graduation ceremony.
8) SENIOR FAREWELL- Thursday May 31st in the PAC. Performers arrive at 6pm. The show begins promptly at 7pm.
The Senior Farewell is an opportunity for seniors to say goodbye to their friends, staff and thank their parents and friends. Students are encouraged to sing, dance, play an instrument, read a poem, do stand-up comedy, and show their talent. It is open to family and friends and a great kick-off to Senior Week. This ceremony is a reflection of four years at Menlo-Atherton. Members of the class of 2018 will share artistic expressions, typically through readings or musical performances. You may choose to share your feelings with your class or just be part of the audience. In either case, participation is voluntary. You will be wearing your graduation gown during the ceremony (but not your cap). The ceremony is followed by a reception sponsored by the junior class.
If you would like to audition to perform at Senior Farewell, auditions will be held May 16th and 17th. Rehearsal will be May 30th at 3:30.
9) SENIOR PICNIC –June 5th at Huddart Park Check-in at 8:00 am, Gym patio
The Senior Picnic allows the seniors to let their hair down, enjoy a BBQ, play some wonderful games, and have some fun under the sun. We will be enjoying the day at Huddart Park. All seniors MUST ride the buses provided TO and FROM the event. Choosing not to follow the rules laid down by the Menlo-Atherton administration team may result in not being allowed to participate in graduation activities. The designated permission form and medical release are for picnic attendance and in order to purchase a Senior Week ticket.
10) AWARDS NIGHT—June 5th in the PAC at 7pm
Awards Night is a celebration of the many academic and extra-curricular accomplishments of our M-A grads. It will be held on June 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the PAC. You will be informed before the event if you will be receiving an award. Students receiving awards will sit in a designated area in the PAC.
11) SENIOR BREAKFAST – June 6th in the New Gym 9am
The Senior Breakfast is sponsored by the PTA and offers an informal, relaxed time for the seniors to unite and socialize while enjoying free food and beverage. It is also an excellent time to sign yearbooks. It will be held on June 6th at 9:00 a.m. in the New Gym.
12) GRADUATION REHEARSAL – June 6th starting in Ayer’s Gym 10:15
You must attend the rehearsal on Wednesday if you want to be in the ceremony on Thursday. The rehearsal will begin after the Senior Breakfast at about 10:15 a.m. and will last until approximately 12:30 p.m.
13) GRADUATION DAY—June 7th at 4:00pm
There will be one final rehearsal before the ceremony, if necessary. Students who do not arrive in time for the rehearsal may be dropped from the ceremony. A rehearsal is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. as needed. Graduates need to report to the main gymnasium by 3:00 p.m. with cap and gown (please don’t bring purses, cell phones, etc., as there are no pockets in the gowns).
Graduation is a formal occasion - please dress accordingly: shirts with collars, no shorts or cut-offs, no bare feet, no athletic shoes or other attire that would detract from the solemnity of the event. Photographs of all grads will be taken by a professional company. Proofs will be sent home with no obligation to buy.
During the ceremony as you march across the stage, you will be given a case for your diploma, but not the actual diploma. Diplomas will be waiting for you to pick up in the main hallway after the ceremony is over (approximately 6:00 p.m.). Don’t forget to pick it up! Diplomas not picked up after the ceremony will be available in the Guidance Office until the end of June. Invitations for graduation are not necessary. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. However, there will be no access to the field until 2:45 p.m. PARKING IS LIMITED. Please carpool! The City of Atherton WILL ticket illegally parked cars. Additional parking is available at SRI.
14) GRAD NIGHT PARTY—June 7th 7:30pm
The Safe & Sober Grad Night Party is sponsored by the PTA. Students must arrive at M-A's New Gym at 7:30 p.m. sharp on June 7th to load buses that will take them to the venue. Students will return by bus Friday, June 8th at 3:00 a.m. Please note that there will be little time between the end of the graduation ceremony and grad night check-in at M-A. Please plan family celebrations accordingly. The event is a surprise and the evening will be filled with fun, games, entertainment, food, drink, and more!
Only M-A graduates are invited to participate in this grad night celebration. To participate, students must submit a completed Grad Night Registration Form and Waiver, both of which can be found in the school office, the Guidance Center, and on the PTA website. School rules apply for all graduation activities. Inappropriate behavior could result in a forfeiture of the privilege of participating in these activities, including the graduation ceremony.
